This Privacy Policy explains how Hot Potato collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Hot Potato mobile application and related services.

Information We Collect

Depending on how you use Hot Potato, we may collect:

• Account information, including your email address and encrypted password.
• Profile information, including your name, age, gender, biography, interests, preferences, optional location, and profile photos.
• Activity information, including likes, passes, matches, conversations, messages, and app engagement.
• Purchase information needed to verify in-app purchases with Google Play or Apple. We do not collect or store your full payment card details.
• Feedback and support information you choose to submit, including app version, platform, and operating system version.
• Technical information routinely provided with internet requests, such as IP address, request time, and device or browser information.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Create and secure accounts, verify email addresses, and authenticate users.
• Provide profiles, discovery, matching, messaging, and purchase features, including showing nearby profiles first when you choose to share location.
• Operate safety, moderation, abuse prevention, rate limiting, and service security.
• Respond to feedback, troubleshoot problems, and improve Hot Potato.
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms and policies.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. Profile information you choose to provide may be visible to other Hot Potato users as part of the service. We may also share information with service providers that help us operate the app, including cloud hosting, database, image storage, email delivery, and purchase verification providers. These providers may process information only to perform services for us.

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the public, to investigate fraud or abuse, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain information while your account is active and as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the service. You can delete your account from within Hot Potato. Account deletion removes your profile, profile images, matches, likes, passes, conversations, and messages from our active systems, subject to limited retention required by law, security, fraud prevention, or backups.

When a user ends a match, the conversation is hidden immediately. We may retain its encrypted messages for a limited period so that safety reports can be investigated, after which they are automatically deleted unless a longer period is required for a legal or safety reason.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encrypted network connections, password hashing, authentication controls, and access restrictions. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

Children

Hot Potato is intended only for people who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has provided information, please contact us so we can investigate and remove it.

International Processing

Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.

Your Choices and Rights

You may update profile information in the app, choose whether to share location, manage device permissions in system settings, and delete your account. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information. Contact us to submit a privacy request. We may need to verify your identity first.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Hot Potato changes. We will post the revised policy here and update the date above. Material changes may also be communicated through the app or another appropriate channel.
